Adam was established in 1984 and has a current population of about 1,300 families. Officially, the town was given the name Geva Binyamin after the name of the biblical city of Kohanim [priests] located within the borders of the tribe of Benjamin during the period of the Judges. However, local residents continue to call it Adam, the original name chosen by the founding group of residents, named after Deputy Chief of Staff Brigadier General Yekutiel Adam, who was killed in June 1982 in Lebanon. Today, Adam attracts a large number of young families due to the affordable housing options in close proximity to Jerusalem. Local employment includes educational institutions, a carpentry shop, shopping center, health clinics and more. There is also an activity center with programs suitable for all age groups, a state of the art community center with a professional dance studio, senior citizens club and more.
